Sifter 06:23
Sifter by Doug Midgley and John Ashcraft Walking down the misty beach Early in the morning I haven't any worries because I haven't got anyone at all I see a seagull through the haze A figure flying toward me Another lover of the dawn Flying o'er the misty beach Early in the morning He has no words because He hasn't got anyone at all It's time to fly through misty skies And over uncharted terrain It's time to fly and not reason why There's nothing to exchange and nothing to explain Fantasies of all that relaxes No memories of the daylight's taxes Not a word for anyone else Sifting the sands of internal wealth The seasons never change the sands They only move it about And reasons don't answer the man They only remove his doubt Sifter, sifter of subtleties And things not yet conceived Sift the sands of interpretation To find what you believe "Surely," you'll say "There's more than this, So much that I could never miss The gems and jewels that fill the sands," You let them slip Right through your hands And watch the dripping dryness land On a place with nothing beneath it And I see another on the shore A silent sifter dreaming Another lover of the dawn Sleeping on the misty beach Early in the morning I wonder if he's worried And I wonder if he has anyone at all Sifter, sifter of subtleties And things not yet explored Sift and dream not of gold For sifting's your reward And know the fruit of your effort is not for you And you will not know when you're through Just sift it all and decide what's true For amidst the sands the gems are few As in the words of those around you Subtle truths sometimes abound Yet are not known even when found On a place with nothing beneath it One last word before I go Take the truth in stride Like awakening and sleeping It's got another side The truth is like a seagull Swooping low, then flying high And like the sands refill with jewels For you to find during the next low tide I'd sing to the sand and the wind and the gulls And I'd listen to the gentle waves And though you cannot hear me I sing to you anyway But the tide is high and the fog is lifting And the sands of time are slowly sifting And I find that I am silently drifting On a place with nothing beneath it On a place with nothing beneath it ©1994

Paycheck To Paycheck by Doug Midgley I can do it on the 15th If it's before then, I can't go That's just my situation Don't make me proud to let you know That I live paycheck to paycheck I live paycheck to paycheck I live paycheck to paycheck I live paycheck to paycheck The rent, the phone, the garbage The water and the gas All add me up to crazy  And my cash flow's gonna crash And the new car I owe on The battery's dead "The insurance ran out But drive careful," they said And that's the day the accident happened I can do it if it's Thursday If it's before then I can't go No, I don't bowl on Wednesdays It's 'cause I'm broke if you must know 'Cause I live paycheck to paycheck I live paycheck to paycheck I live paycheck to paycheck I live paycheck to paycheck The Visa and the MasterCard Could make a living on my debt But first the rent and electric I can't pay that plastic yet And if I break my arm or leg And they put it in a cast Then it's the rent, the phone, and doctor's bills And the plastic waits 'til last 'Cause I live paycheck to paycheck I live paycheck to paycheck I live paycheck to paycheck I live paycheck to paycheck ©1994

Colleen 02:31
Colleen by Doug Midgley I had to leave the city To find out how I feel Yellowstone's mountain roads And daisy covered fields Where Colleen Reily touched my life Colleen showed me what it is to love her freedom I was hopelessly in love  Heartbroken and alone Shattered by good gone bad I thought too much to know Then Colleen straightened out my sight Colleen showed me what it is to know my freedom She told me of a love  She felt high in the mountains It was very plain to me  She was led by her emotions And Colleen is destined to stay free Colleen knows what she wants is what her world will be She hails from Ohio  But she spent last year in Cody I feel like I've been robbed  'Cause she may never get to know me Colleen Reily changed my life Colleen showed me what it is to love my freedom I hope she understands That I meant the things I told her She took me by the hands And my confusion was over Colleen, thanks for what you've done Colleen, you stole my heart and gave me back my freedom ©1994

Too Bad 03:12
Too Bad by Doug Midgley and John Ashcraft It's too bad we could never satisfy each other I could have loved you anyway Now it's too bad we always disappoint each other It's too bad we have to look the other way And it's too damn bad that a feeling so strong Could be countered in so many ways And it's too, too bad we see everything's wrong And let our love remain lost in the haze And let our love remain lost in the haze You can't cope with whatever I do  And you make it impossible for me to handle you And days gone by attract my eye And I think I should stay but you make me cry And I wonder why we couldn't stop And let each other only be lovers Without having to go out of our minds All of this intensity  Is me drawn out of you I return to sensibility  When I'm through It's too bad we could never satisfy each other I could have loved you anyway Now it's too bad we always disappoint each other It's too bad we have to look the other way And it's too, too bad we can't get close to each other And still let each other be free Yeah, too bad, too bad It's too, too bad We can't let each other see Yeah, it's too bad we just can't learn from the other And let each other be free And help each other see It's too bad we could never satisfy each other I could have loved you anyway It's too bad we always disappoint each other  It's too bad we have to look the other way And it's too damn bad that a feeling so strong Could be countered in so many ways And it's too, too bad we see everything's wrong And let our love remain lost in the haze And let our love remain lost in the haze ©1994

Broken Heart 03:16
Broken Heart by Doug Midgley and David Waehner Thought you found forever Well love's a funny thing Thought you always be together But to him you're just a fling Wasn't it you Who gave all your love from the start Your dreams didn't come true Now all that's left is a broken, broken heart Only time can tell you If it was meant to be He'll do anything to sell you  On his sincerity Wasn't it you Who gave all your love from the start Your dreams didn't come true  Now all that's left is a broken, broken, broken, broken heart When you're looking for love Look out for yourself Until you're sure You've found that somebody else Look out for yourself You talk about forever Well love's a funny thing Thought you had it all together But you didn't have a thing Wasn't it you Who gave all your love from the start Your dreams didn't come true Now all that's left is a broken, broken, broken, broken heart ©1994

Now That You're Gone by Doug Midgley and David Waehner Now that you're gone Now that you're gone Now that you're gone words aren't enough Now that you're gone Now that you're gone Now that you're gone words aren't enough I hurt you Accused you of running around Was it all in my mind So jealous I was confused and afraid Of what I might find You hurt me You acted like you didn't care If we ever made up Your silence Said more than the sound of the door That you closed on my life Now that you're gone Now that you're gone Now that you're gone words aren't enough Now that you're gone Now that you're gone Now that you're gone words aren't enough Remember We promised that we'd never part In the heat of the fight Then I saw My look of despair in your eyes With our love lost inside I promise you I pay the price That those words cost my heart As the scene is recalled And I can't retract all Of the pain that was caused Now that you're gone Now that you're gone Now that you're gone words aren't enough Now that you're gone Now that you're gone Now that you're gone words aren't enough ©1994

Wrecked Truck by Doug Midgley Driving through the moonlit desert I was howling with the radio Wondering if the gas I've got... Damn, how long is this road? Dreaming 'bout that long white line I didn't see that rusty nail The hubcap danced in front of me And the tire began to wail The solid white line wasn't on my lift Damn ditch was coming fast Well it rolled, it stopped, it changed my plans My body it the dash The last few beats of some country song Empty beer cans hitting the roof Cold water from the cooler The glass wasn't shatter proof Was just a near miss  Another rough kiss A little bad luck Another wrecked truck A little mishap Another cold slap A little bit of luck You see I get another chance Was just a near miss  Another rough kiss A little bad luck Another wrecked truck A little mishap Another cold slap A little bit of luck You see I get another chance Well, I woke up surrounded by my new truck It was a very bad day, but not my last I was a little bumped, bloodied, bruised But not too broken I hoped As I climbed through the shards of glass Even the cooler got wasted bouncing around the cab My last cold one was warm by then But it was the only one I had You see I've tasted blood and beer before But this time I was glad Was just a near miss  Another rough kiss A little bad luck Another wrecked truck A little mishap Another cold slap A little bit of luck You see I get another chance Was just a near miss  Another rough kiss A little bad luck Another wrecked truck A little mishap Another cold slap A little bit of luck You see I get another chance Well, I tried to spit and couldn't  I was as dry as the sand around me I wished I hadn't killed that can so fast And it was only 8:15 A lizard took my eyes  To a piece of the sideview mirror Two black eyes, a broken nose Smiling back at me from ear to ear So I went up to check out the skid marks I was hoping that a car'd come by But none did so I started walking down That hot, long, lonely, white line The blacktop was getting hotter than The day was getting long I dug deep to find another step And kept humming that country song Was just a near miss  Another rough kiss A little bad luck Another wrecked truck A little mishap Another cold slap A little bit of luck You see I get another chance Was just a near miss  Another rough kiss A little bad luck Another wrecked truck A little mishap Another cold slap A little bit of luck I'm still here ©1994

On and On 03:28
On & On by Doug Midgley Moonlight kisses the ripples on the water And it takes me back, way back To where we used to want to be And time ticks by as my mind begins to wonder Until we finally arrive And peaceful sleeps steals the night   And on and on and on, on and on and on I'd love to see you here tomorrow And on and on and on, on and on and on Let's share the joys and sorrows   The sun comes like it's licking up the water And the new waves lap the shore With the questions of the day And though there are no answers We're in awe of what we see As we're engulfed by it's familiarity   And on and on and on, on and on and on I'd love to see you here tomorrow And on and on and on, on and on and on Let's share the joys and sorrows   On and on and on, on and on and on On and on and on, on and on and on ©1994
